You’ve got lots of options for college basketball content. Why one more?
A quick story
To borrow from Goodfellas, I always wanted to be a writer. Well, that’s not exactly true. At one point I wanted to be a Ghostbuster. And then a professional volleyball player. But by the time I was 12, I wanted to be a writer. I wasn’t obsessive, but confident in the eventual outcome.
Things changed along the way. I didn’t prioritize writing for a few years, then two things happened. While working as an editor at msnbc.com, the need to write seeped into my work. I also needed to re-allocate funds to ensure proper college basketball coverage in March. So I started a blog, Beyond the Arc. For six years, I wrote thousands of words. Things changed again, I became a manager for all the writers at NBC Sports. Then I was laid off. Now, I have a job in marketing that still allows me to write, but it’s not about sports.
So now, here I am, trying to write. Again.
Why Beyond the Arc?
I’m looking for fulfillment. I’m looking for something to satisfy this itch. I’m looking for a creative outlet for my passions: basketball (especially college basketball), movies and media.
How it takes shape will vary (usually essays, with some links; the blog habits will die hard), not to mention the frequency. This isn’t my full-time job. Not yet, anyway.
What you’ll find is content that will make you nod in appreciation, a little wistful, and at times kinda angry. Because good writing should have a point of view. I’m not here to waste your time — or mine.
So, welcome. Subscribe, and enjoy the ride.
